How to share a CT scan or MRI with your doctor online
CD not readable, files too large for email? Here is how to share your CT or MRI images securely with a doctor, with a link and an access code.
Why CDs are a problem
Many computers no longer have a CD drive, and the viewers on imaging CDs often only work on Windows. Files are also far too large for email.
What a good share looks like
Your doctor should be able to open the images in a browser, without an account, only for the time needed. You should be able to stop the share at any time and know if it was opened.
Step by step with scans.me
1. Import your scan (CD folder, USB stick or ZIP).
2. Open it and click “Share this scan”.
3. Choose a duration: 1, 7 or 30 days (longer on paid plans).
4. Send the link and the access code by two different channels, for example email and text message.
Keep control
In Shares you see every active link, when it was viewed, and you can revoke or extend it. After 5 wrong codes, the link is temporarily locked.
Before a second opinion
Also share the radiology report (PDF) with the images: a specialist will want both.
Store, view and share your medical images.
